EPA reforms postponed

June 14, 2020

Throughout the course of 2019 and earlier this year, the Victorian Government undertook work to modernize the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) of Victoria. This included undertaking extensive reforms to the existing EPA legislative and regulatory framework. These reforms are to be implemented through two legislative packages; the Environment Protection Act 2017 and the Environmental Protection Amendment Act 2018.

Read further information on the EPA reforms.

The reforms were intended to come into effect on 1 July 2020. However, the COVID-19 Omnibus (Emergency Measures) Bill 2020 postponed the commencement of the majority of the provisions of the Environment Protection Amendment Act 2018 to 1 July 2021.

Further information and guidance will be provided to help you prepare for the new requirements, closer to the introduction of measures on 1 July 2021. If you wish to discuss this matter further, please contact Teresa Davis via t.davis@hia.com.au or 03 9280 8230.
