Victorian Government pushes ahead with industrial manslaughter laws
April 08, 2019
Last year the Premier announced that, if re-elected, the government would introduce new industrial manslaughter laws into the Occupational Health and Safety Act, with $16 million fines and jail terms of up to 20 year for employers responsible for negligently causing death.
In March the government started work on the laws and established an implementation taskforce to consult on the laws. This taskforce includes families who have lost loved ones in workplace accidents so that they can contribute to the reforms. HIA has been in contact with the Minister’s office and is representing members in relation to the proposed laws.
