The housing industry is open

April 23, 2020

The Victorian Government has just announced a Building and Development Industry Taskforce. HIA has been appointed to the Taskforce and will work with the Victorian Government to keep the state's building and development industry open for business during this time. The work of this Taskforce will also be critical in the coming months to stabilising home building activity in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

While the housing industry remains open and operating under the current Stage 3 restrictions in place in Victoria, HIA members have shared with us their concerns that customer interest in buying a new home or starting a renovation project is declining with concerns about COVID-19.

We are making it clear that homebuyers or renovators can continue to attend meetings with their builder, visit a display home to make home buying decisions, a showroom or selection centre to carry out product selections or attend required inspections of completed home building work.

To help members explain to potential customers why they can still consider building a new home or starting a home renovation, HIA has released A guide for new home buyers and renovators which is part of the ‘Making Space On Site’ series.  Share this new homebuyers guide with your future and existing clients to give them peace of mind.

The HIA Making space on site to manage COVID-19 series continues to grow with the release of:

HIA has also been working with the Federal Government around JobKeeper criteria together with actively pursuing with the Victorian Government the need for a stimulus for the housing industry in the short term together with some matters for the medium and longer term.
