Update of the review to cut red tape in planning & building
June 24, 2019
In March of this year, the Victorian Government announced that the Commissioner for Better Regulation and Red Tape (the Commissioner) will be undertaking a review of the planning and building systems within Victoria.
The Victorian Government raised that the overarching aim of the review is to streamline State and Local Government planning systems and to reduce red tape delays. HIA have been meeting regularly with the Commissioner and her team to assist in this process, through providing recommendations for review and industry insights. The Commissioner has identified that early thinking for potential areas of reform include matters such as small lot permits, local councils, referral authorities, building approvals, electricity connections and Precinct Structure Plans /Growth Areas Infrastructure Contributions. HIA will continue to work closely with the Commissioner as the review progress throughout the year.
