Safety campaign - falling objects
February 05, 2019
During February and March, WorkSafe inspectors will be looking closely at how builders address the prevention of objects falling from height.
According to WorkSafe “Over the last five years the construction industry has seen five lives lost whilst 721 construction workers have required workers compensation as a result of being injured by a falling object.”
Below are the focus areas of the campaign:
- Common causes of objects falling
- Where objects often land
- Impact forces and deflections of a falling object
- Risk control measures– measures that prevent objects from falling in the first place are better than control measures effective after an object has fallen.
- Lifting equipment hazards e.g. worker’s being struck by loads that were being lifted, lowered or suspended
