Exploring options for a 'Secondary Dwelling Code'
December 03, 2019
The Victorian Government is exploring options for a ‘Secondary Dwelling Code’.
Over the course of the past few months the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) have been exploring options for potentially drafting a ‘Secondary Dwelling Code’ (the Code). The concept behind the Code is to facilitate small scale, self-contained secondary dwellings (‘granny flat’ style accommodation) on the same lot as an existing dwelling within a residential area.
Through this process, DELWP are seeking to identify an appropriate assessment pathway to streamline permit applications that comply with the proposed Code. The proposed Code is targeting a different development form to Dependent Persons Units (DPU’s) and will therefore not alter the existing provisions/ processes for DPU’s.
Some preliminary stakeholder feedback has been provided to DELWP, however DELWP are now looking to engage directly with organisations who operate within this space to gain direct industry knowledge.
If you would like the opportunity to provide direct feedback to either DELWP or to HIA to provide to DELWP, please contact Teresa Davis or call 03 9280 8230.
