VCAT hearings update
June 01, 2020
The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) has announced further updates to its operational response to COVID-19.
From 18 May 2020, VCAT has been progressing currently listed matters using telephone or video where they can reasonably proceed. VCAT have advised if a matter is currently listed to be heard on or after 18 May 2020, VCAT will contact parties to confirm whether their matter will progress on the listed date and by which technology platform. The length, complexity and the number of parties required for a matter will determine the form of technology which can be used.
Additionally, maters which can be determined ‘on the papers’ will continue to be determined in that way. VCAT have advised that matters which can only be heard face-to-face either have or will be adjourned to future date to be fixed. VCAT will advise when face-to-face hearings are able to be heard.
