Connecting women in the WA housing industry

HIA Building Women is all about encouraging and supporting women in residential building and construction through providing opportunities to learn, grow and connect.

The Building Women Mentoring Program has been created with the support of the Construction Training Fund and the Department of Communities to develop leadership skills and opportunities, enhance communication, increase female participation and retention, and provide a support network for women in the residential building industry in Western Australia.

Who can get involved?

The Building Women Mentoring program is about forging new relationships between two groups: women wanting advice on how to navigate their careers and those who've already made progress. All participants will have the chance to skill up with free training. Download our flyer to share with your colleagues or get in touch for more information.

Mentors who want to guide

Women in the housing industry who work in a management or supervisory role (with over six years of experience) seeking opportunities to become better leaders through bespoke training and teaching.

Women keen to learn from the best

Women employed in any role within the residential building industry – apprentice, trade, professional, administration or technical. Want training and one-on-one guidance from established women?

Why join the program?

Mentoring is a collaborative learning relationship that provides personal and professional rewards for both mentors and mentees. This industry-specific program will provide you with new skills, expand your views, and build confidence. You will be a big part of initiating change for women in the industry.

The schedule

31 March Opportunity for 15 mentees and mentors - registration closes
12 April  Selection and allocation of mentors and mentors - applicants notified
22 April Training for mentors (1:00pm - 4:30pm)
30 April Training for mentees (1:00pm - 4:30pm)
 8 May Launch event (5:00pm - 6:30pm)
Monthly One-on-one mentoring sessions (self-managed)
15 July Mentee check-in and DISC analysis 
Virtual Learning modules - short courses 
9 October Debrief and program conclusion (2:30pm - 5:00pm)

HIA developed this program with high performance coach Shona Rowan. Shona has more than 20 years of experience working with Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurs, business owners and career-minded individuals to achieve success.

The Building Women Mentoring  program will help you develop skills, expand viewpoints, build confidence and develop leadership skills. Through your participation, the industry has the ability to foster diversity and achieve cultural change.
