Just as a brickie lays one brick at a time to build a wall, life too, is built one step at a time. And sometimes, it can feel as messy as a worksite at lunch break.
It’s all too easy to end up feeling lost.
But the trick is this – just like in any build, you need a solid plan to guide you. What’s this plan? Mate, it’s setting goals.
Whether they’re rockstars, footy legends, or the big dogs running successful construction firms, all high achievers have one thing in common – they set goals. Setting goals is like designing your future, drawing the plans, getting your DA. It’s what fuels your drive, giving direction to your actions and helps manage your time and resources to get the best out of this life!
Goal-setting doesn’t need to be as stressful as a council inspection. Just think about what you want to build in the next ten years – this is your “Big Picture’. Then, break this monster project into smaller ‘mini-goals’. Achieving these mini-goals one by one gets you closer and closer to reaching your big picture.
But here’s the thing, a good build isn’t just about one feature. So, consider all areas of your life – your career targets, financial goals, need for upskilling, and even your attitude. Think about your relationships, health and work-life balance. Put them all together and it’ll help you see your ideal life.
Just like in any build, you need to ensure the project resonates with YOUR vision.
Not your mate’s. Not your parents’. Not your boss’.
Pick goals that get your heart racing, that you can’t wait to get stuck into.
Keeping on track is just as important as having a goal. Once you’ve got your goals, it’s like breaking ground – you’ve started the process. Review your progress regularly and adjust when needed. On top of that, keep your goals as achievable as possible. This gives you more opportunities to celebrate and keeps the motivation burning bright.
Pen your goals down. Make them precise, with clear timelines. With several goals in place, prioritise them to avoid feeling like you’re juggling a million tasks at once.
If there’s one thing you should take away from this, it’s this…
It’s all about laying out a plan, breaking it into smaller, manageable targets, and keeping your eye on the prize.
You’re going to hit a road bump somewhere down the road, but don’t sweat it! It’s not about nailing every goal but about learning and growing from each (however small) step you take.
After all… Even a rough day on the tools teaches you something, right?
