National Tradies Day is a chance to recognise the people behind the places we call home.
Every home starts with an idea. But it takes skilled hands, years of experience and plenty of hard work to turn that idea into reality. From carpenters and electricians to plumbers, bricklayers, plasterers, tilers, painters and countless other trades, tradies are at the heart of Australia's residential building industry.
Whether you're a builder, a tradie, an apprentice or simply someone who lives in an Australian home, take a moment to celebrate the people who build Australia.
National Tradies Day is a chance to show the people on site that their hard work doesn't go unnoticed. Whether it's shoutÂing the crew a coffee or firing up the BBQ, a little recognition goes a long way.
Australia needs more homes. But homes don't build themselves. Behind every house is a team of skilled people – from the apprentice learning their trade to the experienced tradie who has spent years mastering it.

HIA estimates that Australia's residential building workforce needs to grow by more than 83,000 skilled tradespeople to meet the nation's housing needs. That's a workforce increase of around 30%.

When there aren't enough skilled people, builders can struggle to keep projects moving and complete homes. HIA knows access to skilled workers is one of the biggest constraints on Australia's ability to increase home building.

More apprentices. More skilled tradies. More homes. Supporting the people entering the trades today is one of the most important ways we can make sure Australia has the skilled workforce it needs tomorrow.
Creating a stronger trade workforce requires targeted reform across these five priority areas.

Tradies play a vital role in building the homes and communities Australia needs – but how does Australia really view the people behind the work? We're asking builders, tradespeople, apprentices and the wider Australian public to share their views on the importance of trades and the role tradies play in Australia's future.
Your feedback will help us understand how Australians view the trades, the people who work in them and their importance to Australia's future.
