HIA's advocacy work is guided by a range of position (policy) statements that set out the membership's position on the regulation of home building nationally. Position statements are created through HIA's representative committees and reflect the majority position of the membership.

HIA's National Policy Congress is responsible for endorsing these position statements on the recommendation of the national service committees. The national service committees bring together the views and voices of members from each HIA region and they meet each year to prepare and consider these position statements.

HIA's position statements cover the key aspects of home building and housing supply addressing home ownership, regulations and standards, skills and workforce, business and contracting and the environment.

These statements are reviewed on a regular basis to allow HIA's position to adapt and reflect the changing political and business environment.
