Why host a HIA apprentice?

HIA Apprentices provides skilled trade apprentices who are motivated and qualified to work for your business.

Enquire now

With over 30 years’ experience managing building and construction apprentices, HIA Apprentices knows how to find an apprentice who is the right fit for your business.

Cultivating Australia’s best apprentices

The HIA Apprentices program works because it allows apprentice hosts to focus on what matters most to their business. We hire apprentices and remain their legal employer for the duration of their apprenticeship while they are placed with you – our host employers. That means we take care of the recruitment, administration, wages and entitlements, education, training and mentoring of the apprentice, all of which is a considerable time investment for a busy company.

So, how does the end-to-end process work?

HIA takes care of:

  1. interviewing and assessing potential apprentices
  2. presenting you with a selection of ideal applicants
  3. settling trade apprentices into your business as early as possible
  4. managing your apprentice’s ongoing performance, formal training and development
  5. relocating your apprentice through our extensive member network if, for any reason, the work falls away.

We’ll support you by:

  • taking care of the paperwork (wages, leave balances, workers compensation, tax and superannuation)
  • managing the apprentice’s training, development and performance
  • giving the apprentice their gear (work register and PPE)
  • providing you with WHS support
  • ensuring the apprenticeship is compliant with IR
  • matching the skills and interests of your business carefully with an apprentice
  • delivering pastoral care to help settle the ideal apprentice into your business.

So you can benefit from:

  • dedicating your time to improving your business’s profitability
  • providing expert guidance to Australia’s next generation of Australian tradespeople
  • working with apprentices who are reliable, cost-effective, well supported and trained to your high-quality standards
  • getting the support you need to complete a project quickly and efficiently
  • creating productive and safe workplace environments.

The right apprentice will add value to your business because they will know, direct from the source, how to apply the skills, tools and knowledge they learn to support your business and their career.

I was a HIA apprentice myself, so I thought I would continue the journey. The team has brought great value to my business as they are goal orientated and driven to produce a good product.
Shaun Hutchinson, HIA member and former HIA apprentice in Adelaide, South Australia
