Home of the Year
HIA ACT/Southern NSW Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards
Winner: Status Living
Icon House presents a striking study in minimalist design with brutalist influences, expressed through bold geometric forms and sculptural presence. The floorplan is carefully composed around three established eucalyptus trees, which are treated as living sculptures and cast shifting patterns through the home. Expansive glazing and sliding doors enhance light and airflow, while linking interiors to a sunken firepit and landscaped surrounds. Cantilevered elements create visual drama, with parts of the home appearing to float while demonstrating structural precision. Materiality is restrained, with off-form concrete, textured stonework, Tyrolean render and metal contrasted against walnut joinery and finely crafted stone details. Interiors balance scale and intimacy through varied ceiling heights and considered zoning, while sustainability measures include solar power, hydronic heating and operable façade screens. The result is a residence that demonstrates clarity of vision, discipline in execution and a distinctive presence within its setting.
