2021 HIA Australian GreenSmart Display / Project Home

Winner: Adelaide Green Homes, South Australia

Adelaide Green Homes utilised its hands-on experience and heartfelt commitment to innovative green strategies to design the award-winning Hendrie display home.

This is the company’s first energy-efficient display home that achieved 7.1 stars. Utilising cross-flow ventilation, it captures prevailing breezes with optimal window placements. Automatic high-set windows open to let hot air out in summer and lower set windows bring cooler air into the home.

Located on a corner block with the living areas having a north-facing orientation, the sustainable home showcases visually appealing building materials inside and out. Its external textural materials range from Crackenback sandstone to western red cedar and Merbau hardwood. Materials were carefully selected based on local supply, recycled content and end-of life recycling.

The front of the home was turfed and landscaped with native, drought-resistant plants. The landscaped area uses the natural contour to create raised garden beds to regulate solar gain.
