Second Year

HIA WA Apprentice Awards

Winner: Sam Hegney

Sam has shown outstanding growth and dedication throughout his apprenticeship. Entering the trade as a mature-age apprentice, Sam has brought focus, professionalism and a strong work ethic to every project he’s worked on - from small renovations to large-scale structural upgrades. Sam is involved in all stages of the build process, from site preparation and framing to fit-outs and finishes. He takes pride in delivering high-quality work, consistently following WHS procedures and demonstrating excellent attention to detail. Known for his reliability and positive attitude, Sam balances technical skill with strong communication, liaising with clients, coordinating with trades and mentoring younger apprentices. His passion for the trade is clear. Sam values the variety of work, the sense of purpose on site, and the opportunity to see each job through from start to finish. With plans to complete his qualifications, explore subcontracting, and eventually become a registered builder, Sam is committed to a building a lifelong career in the industry. He is a capable, thoughtful and motivated apprentice who exemplifies the values of his team and trade. Sam is employed and hosted by Woodleigh Home Improvements.
