In an increasingly turbulent economic environment, Australia’s housing market continues to adjust as the Reserve Bank responds to persistent inflationary pressures. While national demand for housing remains resilient, Tasmania faces its own set of challenges, including slower population growth, elevated construction costs and ongoing supply constraints, factors that continue to shape the state’s residential building outlook. As market conditions evolve, understanding the forces influencing Tasmania’s housing pipeline is essential for industry leaders and businesses alike.

Join HIA’s Chief Economist Tim Reardon for this essential luncheon as he unpacks the latest economic forecasts for the residential building industry, covering regional, state and national trends. Tasmanian Treasurer the Hon Eric Abetz MP will deliver the keynote address, sharing insights into Tasmania’s economic priorities and policy settings for 2026, including impacts on the residential building sector. You’ll also gain a powerful industry perspective from Paul Ranson, CEO of Bank of us, on the critical role housing plays in Tasmania’s economy and community, and how finance and partnerships can support better access to home ownership.

This year’s program will also feature an expert panel exploring one of the industry’s most pressing challenges — the impact of land supply on Tasmania’s residential construction sector.

With supply constraints continuing to shape project feasibility, affordability and delivery timelines, this discussion will bring together industry leaders to unpack:

  • The current state of land availability across Tasmania
  • Planning, infrastructure and approval challenges
  • The flow-on impacts for builders, developers and consumers
  • Practical solutions and opportunities to unlock future supply
