Event detail

Join us for an insightful seminar on the recent and upcoming changes to workplace laws affecting the residential building industry. Over the last 18 months, the federal government has implemented significant reforms impacting various aspects of industrial relations. Hosted by HIA, this seminar will provide a comprehensive overview tailored to the needs of businesses and contractors in the residential building sector.

Key topics covered include:

  • changes to penalties, including the new offence of wage theft
  • impact on independent contracting, including the revised definition of employment and the Fair Work Commission's role in resolving disputes
  • expanded role and powers of unions
  • changes to casual employment arrangements
  • introduction of the right to disconnect
  • obligations regarding preventing sexual harassment, including the positive duty to eliminate it and prohibitions on creating hostile work environments
  • amendments to the National Employment Standards, such as 10 days of paid family and domestic violence leave and superannuation

Stay informed to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. Understanding these changes, from increased penalties to new employee rights, is crucial for navigating the evolving regulatory landscape effectively. Don't miss this opportunity to gain clarity and ask questions about how these reforms may impact your business. Join us and stay ahead of the curve!

This workshop has been funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations through the Productivity, Education and Training Fund grant program.
