What is the HIA-HomesNSW Apprentice Program?
The HIA-HomesNSW Apprentice Program is a State Government-funded initiative designed to help eligible apprentices and trainees start and complete their qualifications while supporting host businesses to build a skilled workforce.
Delivered through HIA Apprentices, the program would offer:
- Reduced apprentice charge-out rates for participating host businesses
- Access to a range of wrap-around support services designed to help eligible apprentices complete their training and engaged throughout their apprenticeship
- Completion bonuses to all completing apprentices & trainees
What are the benefits of this program?
Finding the right talent for your business is a common challenge across the residential building industry. Taking on an apprentice or trainee can help businesses strengthen their workforce, but the cost, administration and ongoing management can make it difficult, especially while also managing project deadlines and clients.
The HIA-HomesNSW Apprentice Program helps host businesses:
- Access subsidised apprentice and trainee charge-out rates
- Increase their capacity to take on more work
- Develop their on-site workforce to meet their business needs
- Receive ongoing admin support & apprentice management from HIA
Beginning a career in construction can be difficult without the opportunity to apply training in a real workplace. The HIA-HomesNSW Apprentice Program provides eligible apprentices and trainees with a supported pathway into the industry by connecting them with host businesses.
Through the program, apprentices and trainees can:
- Earn an income while gaining hands-on workplace experience
- Build practical, job-ready skills
- Obtain a trade qualification
- Receive ongoing support throughout their apprenticeship/traineeship
- Completion bonuses to all completing participants
- Fee free access to HIA Learning Cert IV Building & Construction for eligible apprentices

The program supports eligible apprentices and trainees in trade and operational roles, along with the businesses that host them.
