Charitable Foundation

Improving the health and welfare of our industry

The HIA Charitable Foundation (HIACF) was founded in 2012 to improve health and welfare outcomes for HIA members, their families and the wider community. Tackling mental health is a big part of our program.

HIACF has an 13 year history of stepping up to support causes that matter to the residential building industry. "We do this by providing financial donations to best-practice research organisations," says Pino Monaco, Chair of HIACF. The Foundation’s current beneficiaries include Beyond Blue and the Tradie Health Institute.

HIA Charity modular home

The HIA Charitable Foundation is proud to announce its partnership with TR Homes to build the first HIA Charitable Foundation Modular Home in WA. TR Homes are generously donating their time and resources to construct the house. We have also rallied support from many suppliers to donate the necessary materials.

Once built, the modular home will be available for sale and transport to regional WA. The home will be fitted out with high quality materials and be ready to move into for the new owner. The funds raised from the sale of the home will be used to contribute to better health and wellbeing for housing industry workers, their colleagues and families via mental health charity Beyond Blue. We also support medical research into the treatment of silicosis.

The final built home may vary from this image; representation only.

In partnership with Beyond Blue

For over 9 years, the Foundation has been committed to raising awareness of the mental health issues that affect one in four people in the residential building industry. Our industry can be unpredictable, with extreme highs and lows. So it is not surprising there is a high incidence of anxiety, depression, substance abuse and when left unsupported – suicide.

In partnership with Tradie Health Institute

As silicosis emerges as a health crisis affecting our industry, HIACF has donated funds to help support the development of life-changing diagnostic techniques and treatments through the Tradie Health Institute.

It’s no exaggeration to describe silicosis as an emerging health crisis within the housing industry. Debilitating, incurable and sometimes deadly, this occupational lung disease is caused by inhaling fine particles of silica dust when cutting, drilling, grinding or polishing certain types of stone, rock, masonry, engineered stone and tile.

Tradie Health is a world-leading initiative dedicated to improving the lives of tradies living with silicosis. Their cohesive, co-ordinated "go hard or go home" approach is already delivering positive results.

This disease affects many people in our industry, and we’re proud to be able to contribute to this potentially life-saving medical research.
