Winner: Resonate Homes, Western Australia

Resonate Homes' latest award-winning project will not only resonate with the owner, but with industry professionals alike.

The Western Australian company was revealed as the winner of the 2019 HIA Australian Specialised Housing award for a unique accessible home in front of hundreds of residential building industry leaders at the prestigious 2019 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards ceremony on 25 May.

Designed and built for wheelchair accessibility, this home perfectly caters to the homeowner’s needs. The builder was challenged to provide accessibility while heading away from a clinical aesthetic, and the design includes personalised features which wouldn’t seem out of place in any other home, such as wide open walkways, a walk-in shower and lowered benches in the kitchen.

In addition to the immaculate detailing and finishes, the judges commented on the use of weatherboard cladding which gives the home a lovely coastal feel – highly suited to its location.

The Specialised Housing category criteria is for housing that is designed and built to meet the specific needs of individuals such as aged persons, retirement villages, accommodation for people with disabilities, student accommodation, or the like.
