After years of working in some of Victoria’s largest building and development companies, Simon Dunstan noticed a gap: clients were crying out for homes that were more thoughtful, more personal and more transparent. That insight sparked the launch of SJD Marketing and, eventually, SJD Homes.
'I listened to what buyers were telling me,' Simon says. 'They wanted something that actually fit their lifestyle.'

What began in 2007 with just two employees has grown into one of Victoria’s leading home builders. SJD Homes now employs more than 100 staff, works with more than 150 contractors, and has built thousands of homes across south-eastern Victoria.
'Our consultants stay with clients from the first chat through to contract signing and well beyond,’ Simon explains. ‘That consistency builds real trust.'
The company’s success is also tied to its strong community and sustainability ethos. As a registered HIA GreenSmart builder and carbon-neutral operator, SJD Homes integrates environmentally conscious design into its core offerings. Internally, staff-led committees focus on wellness, community and the environment, shaping culture from the ground up.
This approach hasn’t gone unnoticed. In May, SJD Homes won the 2025 HIA Australian Professional Major Builder award. For Simon, the moment was a humbling one.
'We didn’t think we’d win anything, so it’s mind-blowing,' he said. 'But we knew our team was special. From the directors to the trades, we care about building the right way.'
With a steady pipeline, its regional support and a strong culture of innovation, SJD Homes continues to raise the bar, not just for the homes it delivers, but for how the industry can operate.
