Australia has a fast furniture problem, with research showing that each year, the weight of furniture thrown out by Australian households (222,600 tonnes) is more than four times the weight of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Sustainable furniture stalwart, Koskela, is tackling this issue.
‘Nothing Koskela makes will ever end up in landfill,’ says Koskela co-founder and CEO Sasha Titchkosky. Its Circularity Action Plan now includes a Repair & ReHome system. It offers repair services and has launched an online marketplace for pre-loved and refurbished Koskela furniture.
Its products are consciously crafted, all designed and manufactured onshore. Koskela is also allocating its carbon offset budget towards research and development that will eliminate emissions completely. In addition, the firm aims to stop using virgin materials and ensures that by 2026, 90 per cent of all products are manufactured using recycled and recyclable materials.
Drawing inspiration from ancient Japanese art and culture, the Edo Wall Collection utilises sculptural design and modern materials. Designed and produced in Australia by the Melbourne firm ISM Objects, these shapely wall sconces distinguish themselves as a piece from the Edo period, circa 1603-1868.
Spun in aluminium, the light source is cleverly reflected from inside the fitting. The Edo range offers two sizes and is available in a choice of metallic anodised colours and powdercoated monochrome finishes in many combinations. Suitable indoors and out, the Edo wall sconce can also come with an IP54 rating for bathroom or wet areas.
