Testing time

The practical benefits of the new range were highlighted during recent testing by HIA National Commercial Partnerships Manager Amanda Borg,

Isuzu invited her to Australian Automotive Research Centre, a unique vehicle proving ground. It occupies a 1000-hectare site near Anglesea, south-west of Melbourne, and is the largest privately owned and independently operated automotive testing facility in Australia.

Amanda was thrilled driving Isuzu’s MY25 F Series range across challenging conditions. ‘One of the standout details was driver comfort,’ she says.

‘The cabin layout was intuitive, with controls that were easy to locate and operate, while visibility from the driver’s seat was excellent. In particular, I was impressed by the lack of noticeable blind spots, which is an important consideration when operating on busy worksites or navigating urban construction zones.’

The introduction of Isuzu’s new nine-speed Dual Clutch Transmission is another benefit. Designed to improve fuel efficiency, reduce driver fatigue and provide smoother operation across varying terrain, it gives operators greater flexibility whether navigating city traffic or tackling rough access roads.

According to Amanda, the technology proved its worth during testing. ‘The ride quality was exceptional. I expected a degree of vibration through uneven terrain, but the MY25 model remained remarkably smooth throughout the test program.

Strong reputation in Australia

For builders working on regional projects, Isuzu’s off-road credentials continue to be a major drawcard. The company’s 4x4 heritage has been built over decades supporting emergency services, utilities, mining and field service operators in some of Australia’s harshest environments.

Moving into heavier applications, the MY25 F Series 4x4 trucks build on that reputation. The range includes the FSS 110-210 4x4 and flagship FTS 150-260 4x4, both designed for demanding vocational applications where payload, durability and off-road capability are essential.

According to Isuzu Australia Limited Head of Product Management and Chief Engineer Simon Humphries, the new generation has been developed specifically for operators who demand dependable performance in challenging conditions.

‘The F Series 4x4 range has built an extremely strong reputation in Australia because it delivers where operators need it most – reliability, capability and long-term durability in very demanding conditions,’ Simon says.

The MY25 update introduces significant improvements in safety, braking, chassis strength and driver comfort. The FTS now benefits from a strengthened chassis, increased front axle capacity and Isuzu’s I-Brake engine compression brake, delivering greater control and confidence when operating on steep grades or carrying heavy loads.

Why safety receives major attention

For builders and contractors operating in difficult terrain, those improvements translate directly into productivity and uptime.

‘Operators increasingly require vehicles capable of transitioning between sealed roads, regional highways and difficult off-road terrain,’ Simon says.

Amanda experienced those capabilities firsthand during testing

‘The proving ground course included steep ascents, heavily rutted sections and muddy terrain, providing a realistic demonstration of vehicle handling under demanding conditions,’ she says. ‘Each model climbed significant gradients confidently and maintained stability across challenging surfaces.’

Safety has also received major attention across the MY25 range. Advanced driver assistance technologies, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, electronic stability control and upgraded braking systems provide greater protection for drivers and other road users. Dedicated off-road ABS and stability control functions further enhance performance in low-traction environments.

Comfort counts
