Robust, durable and often very beautiful, concrete has been used in construction for centuries. And while there are many examples of concrete holding up buildings around the world (perhaps most famously the Colosseum in Rome), there are also many examples of concrete in less-than-optimum condition in homes and gardens across Australia – think tired driveways, stained garage floors and cracked pathways.
However, the good news is that thanks to Dulux Avista, there’s now fast, cost-effective and sustainable ways to revive, refresh and even repair old and damaged concrete – no jackhammering or expensive replacement required.
‘The range is created for trade and specialty applicators to enhance, protect and rejuvenate new and existing concrete surfaces. It provides colour, texture and design options for residential and light commercial projects,’ explains David Houghton, Business Manager at Dulux Avista.
‘It’s a singular brand for decorative concrete. The name, Avista, which is drawn from the Italian “vista” meaning view or vision, speaks for itself.’
The five product categories under the Dulux Avista brand deliver HIA members a 360-degree solution for interior and exterior concrete projects. These include:
With its innovative, new-generation formulations, design flexibility and broad scope of applications, the Dulux Avista range offers several distinct advantages for HIA members and their clients.
‘From a cost perspective, it's roughly about half the price to repair and concrete resurface existing concrete than it is to rip up and re-lay,’ David says. ‘And as well as that, return-to-service is anywhere from five to seven days, versus a newly poured driveway where you're going to be out of action for more than three weeks.’
So, Dulux Avista will deliver great results for your clients, get you moving onto your next project sooner and, with the backing of the trusted Dulux name, give you a competitive advantage. David explains: ‘From a builder's point of view, whether they've got the skills to apply Dulux Avista themselves or they're connected to the trades that can, there are a number of overlooked opportunities for a greater share of wallet with existing customers.’
Then there’s the sustainability piece. Preserving existing concrete is obviously less resource-intensive than producing, transporting and pouring new concrete. Along with that, David says that in recent years, there’s been ‘a huge focus on transitioning to more water-based, sustainable, lower-VOC product solutions. These eco-friendly options reduce harsh fumes and allow safer application for interior and exterior spaces whilst still producing durable and aesthetically pleasing decorative concrete finishes.’
Although they are primarily ‘brush and roll’, Dulux Avista products are designed to be applied by trade professionals rather than DIY. Why? Because, as with any surface, the correct product selection, preparation and application techniques are critical to ensuring the product’s longevity. That’s why Dulux Avista offers comprehensive technical support for all its products so you can specify and install with confidence.
There’s also an opportunity for trades to upskill and unlock more work opportunities by becoming an applicator expert via Dulux Avista’s comprehensive, hands-on training courses. For example, if you’re a waterproofer, you could also apply epoxy flooring; if you are a concreter, renderer or landscaper, you could also branch out your business to include concrete resurfacing.
Dulux Avista’s training courses have helped thousands of businesses extend their offer beyond their core which is particularly important in today’s challenging economy,’ David says.
‘This year, we'll have over 500 applicators go through our training programs nationally.’
Dulux Avista combines the iconic, instantly recognisable Dulux name with decades of concrete expertise. David, who has been with Dulux for 10 years, says innovation is one of the brand’s key strengths.
‘What I really love about the DuluxGroup is the constant focus on innovation, service and sustainability from a customer-first perspective.’
With Dulux Avista, that translates to working with trades and distributors. ‘From the trade lens perspective, it’s a partnership. It’s not a cookie-cutter approach; we have to understand and support their needs and help them grow their individual businesses,’ David says.
‘We're not just a product, we're a full service and support business. So whether that's training, technical support, representatives on the road, or our comprehensive distribution network, it all adds up to the value of the Dulux Avista brand, knowing that you're not alone when you're applying our products, that we're there to support and help you and give your customer the best results.’
