“HIA has been strongly advocating for the continuation of these grants, to provide certainty to the industry and prospective homeowners with the chance to live the dream of owning and building their own homes.
“More than 400 HomeGrown build grants have already been approved, representing an investment of over $12 million into the construction sector, supporting local jobs and population growth.
“With more than 400 grants approved, this represents around $180 million in local construction activity, supporting Territory jobs, strengthening supply chains and contributing to long-term economic growth.
“The scheme is a first of its kind in the country, providing a HomeGrown Territory Grant for first home builders to receive a $50,000 grant and those looking for a fresh start able to access a $30,000 grant.
“These home building incentives are welcome measures and something HIA advocated for in the lead up to the Territory election and it is now pleasing to see this scheme going from strength to strength.
“These much-needed incentives are crucial to both individual households as well as growing the Northern Territory’s population and economy and getting more people into home ownership sooner.
“Housing is intrinsically tied to economic growth and vice-versa. Kickstarting the economy requires measures to attract more people to the Territory as well increasing the supply of adequate and affordable housing.
“By supercharging the building industry through programs such as the HomeGrown and FreshStart it brings with it key economic opportunities including the creation of new and exciting jobs.
“The scheme is boosting housing supply, driving confidence in the building sector, and underpinning population growth and we congratulate the Northern Territory Government on continuing this important program till 2027,” concluded Mr Espinoza.
The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has welcomed the Prime Minister's acknowledgement today that housing must remain a central consideration as Australia expands its digital infrastructure and data centre capacity.
This member alert is for members who enter into domestic building contracts entered into before 1 July 2026. It is also important information for members who enter into domestic building contracts with clients with untitled land.
Over the past few weeks HIA has been advocating strongly on behalf of members on a range of policy and regulatory issues that have significant implications for housing supply, business confidence and the capacity of our industry to deliver the homes Australia needs.
The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has today written to the Tasmanian Government calling for a commitment that state-funded and state-partnered housing work will continue to be awarded on merit, not industrial arrangements, warning new federal procurement rules could shrink the pool of builders able to deliver the homes Tasmania needs.
