“Development of the underutilised land in Bruce has been foreshadowed for many years. It is great to finally see a vision for the precinct,” said HIA Executive Director ACT and Southern NSW, Geordan Murray.
“The Master Plan for Bruce presents an enormous opportunity to create a vibrant mixed-use residential precinct with between 4,000 and 5,800 new homes.
“Anchored by major investments in community infrastructure, including the North Canberra Hospital, a new stadium, and potentially serviced by the extension of the light rail, new homes in the precinct would provide a unique offering the region’s housing market.
“Canberrans have become understandably cynical about the seemingly endless procession of strategies and visionary plans that do not include any timeline for delivery.
“The report identifies the possibilities. The next step must be for the Federal and ACT governments to agree on a viable pathway forward and provide a realistic timetable for delivery.
“That timetable should include early opportunities to release suitable land for housing.
“Bruce has the potential to become a genuinely integrated precinct where people can live close to employment, education, health services, sport and recreation facilities, while also providing an important link between Civic and the Belconnen Town Centre.
“The housing industry looks forward to working with both governments to help turn the vision for Bruce into homes, infrastructure and a thriving community,” concluded Mr Murray.

The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has welcomed the release of BuildSkills Australia's new report examining the workforce and skills implications of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), saying the findings confirm that innovation in home building can be supported through evolution of existing skills and training pathways rather than wholesale workforce disruption.

“Today's increase in interest rates will further reduce the number of new homes Australia builds at the time when increased supply is the only sustainable solution to the affordability challenge,” stated HIA Senior Economist Tom Devitt.
HIA welcomes recommissioning of Cardup Brickworks
