The report will be launched in Queensland tomorrow morning at the annual HIA Outlook breakfast in Brisbane.

“Hutchies held onto top spot in Queensland, commencing 2,205 dwellings, with an impressive additional 846 starts since last year to consolidate their position at number one,” said HIA Executive Director Queensland Mike Roberts.

“This increased level of activity also saw Hutchies climb one place into third nationally, in the rankings of the nation’s largest multi-unit builders. 

“Sumitomo Forestry Australia (Henley T/A Plantation, Metricon) is a new name on the list following the acquisition by the group of two of last year’s top five Queensland builders.

“Meriton Apartments came in at third place for Queensland - down from the number two spot last year - although were second nationally for multi-units when combined with their starts from NSW, putting them one place ahead of Hutchies on that list.

“Coral homes slipped one place to sixth against the 2024/25 report, with McNab Group and Homecorp Constructions moving into the top five, in fourth and fifth place, respectively. 

“Queensland’s Housing 100 builders accounted for 18,223 homes, which represents 26 per cent of dwellings on the list. This group also were responsible for 41 per cent of all new homes built in the state.

“The largest 20 builders delivered 14,918 homes, which was up by 35.8 per cent, with their combined market share increasing from 31 per cent to 34 per cent.

“Market conditions remain challenging, given three hikes to interest rates, weaker consumer confidence and tax changes introduced in the Federal Budget 2026/27. 

“This has seen a softening in new home sales over the past four months, which will likely be reflected in a slight downturn in activity in 2027. 

“Nonetheless, the outlook remains relatively positive for Queensland, with the industry still holding a significant pipeline of work,” concluded Mr Roberts.
