Impressive home named North Queensland Home of the Year

Media Release
Cairns builder Eastbuild Designer Homes won the major award in the region, with a custom built nine-bedroom home in Palm Cove being named the 2021 HIA-CSR North Queensland Home of the Year.

The winning bespoke resort-style residence has a breathtaking 25-metre pool boasting the finest stone and marble finishes. The judges were impressed with the attention to detail and workmanship in every room.

“The detail throughout the home was carefully considered and delivered with perfection”, commented a judge, while according to another judge the home “took their breath away”.

The Housing Industry Association (HIA) brought together the very best in tropical housing construction, design and innovation from across North Queensland at the 2021 HIA-CSR North Queensland Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards presented in Townsville on 12 November.

HIA Regional Director Peter Fry said “despite the continuing challenges posed by the pandemic, particularly around material and skills shortages, HIA has again seen an increase in high quality entries in our Award’s program from our members across the north.”

Cairns’ Artizan Cabinets took out the prestigious North Queensland Kitchen of the Year with a striking contemporary kitchen in Edge Hill. Judges were impressed with the visually stunning black kitchen with Huon Pine features.

Cairns apprentice Eric Latham from MiHaven was awarded the North Queensland Apprentice of the Year.

In congratulating the winners, Mr Fry remarked that “each year the Awards attract an outstanding array of entries showcasing the different housing forms in our region with this year being no exception.”

Mr Fry also praised the industry and its member for its resilience, strong contribution to the economy and for providing high quality housing for North Queenslanders.

“The high quality of workmanship in the entries made the judge’s task a very difficult process,” said Mr Fry.

“As in previous years the Awards were supported by building products supplier CSR and numerous HIA industry partners. Their support remains critical in ensuring events which celebrate industry success can continue,” said Mr Fry.

All the major North Queensland Award winners now progress to represent North Queensland at the national HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards to be held on the Gold Coast in 2022.

The Awards, hosted by local personality Glenn ‘Minty’ Mintern, celebrate excellence in residential building construction and design, innovation and sustainability; showcasing the industry’s best from Cairns, Townsville and Central Queenland.
