Victorian home wins HIA’s highest national award

Victorian home wins HIA’s highest national award

Media release
BCM Homes from Victoria won the coveted HIA–CSR Australian Home of the Year, the highest accolade at the 2024 HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards.

The phenomenal home was designed and built with an overarching philosophy of balancing aesthetic and environmental response. Suspended on the water's edge of an unbelievably steep slope, the home moulds to the landscape and is cleverly designed to preserve and celebrate the site's breathtaking views.

The project overcame extreme difficulty with the judges impressed with the meticulous detail and execution, from large-scale technical and logistical, to the very smallest details. Care, attention and an uncompromising quality are evident at every turn.

Hydronic in-slab heating, premium appliances, extensive integrated technology and a 600-bottle wine cellar are the icing on the cake for this home that perfectly combines luxury living with a laid back coastal lifestyle.

The home also won HIA Australian Custom Built Home, partnered by ActronAir.

The 2024 HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards were announced on 18 May in front of an audience of industry leaders and home building consumers.

HIA Managing Director Jocelyn Martin highlighted that the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards celebrate the remarkable achievements of HIA members who are excelling in Australia’s residential building industry.

"At HIA, we’re dedicated to giving credit where it's due. HIA Awards are our way of recognising the exceptional talent within our membership. We are talking about members who not only build extraordinary homes, kitchens, and bathrooms but also run incredibly successful businesses," Ms Martin emphasised.

"The craftsmanship displayed by our award winners is simply outstanding. Their projects often redefine what's possible in terms of design and innovation, setting new standards for the industry. It brings me immense joy to extend my congratulations to each and every winner for their unwavering dedication to excellence."

Ms Martin also acknowledged the aspiring tradespeople of tomorrow - the apprentices - who are constantly striving to better themselves in their chosen fields and congratulated the professional builders and small businesses who are setting the bar high in areas like customer service, design, innovation, building quality, and overall business practices.

"It's truly inspiring to see such dedication and passion across the board. Congratulations to all the winners for their outstanding contributions to the industry," Ms Martin concluded.

The HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards recognise exceptional projects, businesses and people from all around Australia.

HIA Australian Specialised Housing was won by M+J Builders from Northern Territory for a housing development designed for high-dependant occupants. The category is partnered by Merlin Garage Door Openers.

Apprentice Oliver Burnell from Tasmania was named the HIA Jim Brookes Australian Apprentice of the Year for consistently exhibiting an unwavering work ethic, positioning himself as a role model for his peers. The category is partnered by Stratco.

Concepts by Gavin Hepper from NSW won HIA Australian Bathroom Design partnered by Tradelink for a highly functional bathroom that has abundant natural light, ample storage, and privacy for a relaxing bathing experience.

North Queensland’s Liam Gilligan Builders won HIA Australian Outdoor Project for a resort-style outdoor space blending tropical living with refined Mediterranean influences. The category is partnered by Toyota for Business.
