Mazzei Construction has won the prestigious 2024 HIA Tradelink Eastern Victoria Home of the Year award with an outstanding custom built home in Red Hill.
Nestled on a windswept, elevated site the project was guided by two core principles: a thoughtful response to the environment, and a pursuit of elegant simplicity. The home takes full advantage of its fantastic location and excellent design.
But it also presented numerous technical challenges, which the builder has expertly overcome. One clear example is the home's flying roof: overlapping solid concrete roofs that cantilever 2.5 metres out around the perimeter of the home and extend to 3.5 metres at the corners. The builder carried out substantial prototyping in advance to ensure the finished product would be just right.
HIA’s judges also cited the home’s polished concrete floors, timber-lined ceilings and tiling as just some of the additional examples of the Mazzei team’s excellent craftsmanship.
“HIA congratulates Mazzei Construction on this outstanding achievement. This is a very impressive home, built with care and attention to detail that is a credit to the Mazzei team,” says Keith Ryan, HIA Executive Director Victoria.
In addition to 2024 HIA Eastern Victoria Home of the Year, this project also won Mazzei Construction the Custom Built Home of the Year and Custom Built Home over $3 million awards.
Other winners on the night included:
Also winning awards were Excelcon, First Impressions Projects, GJ Gardner Homes Mornington Peninsula, Glenco Building Group, Metricon Homes, Sherridon Homes, SJD Homes, Three Eight Building Group and Virtue Homes.
“The HIA Awards are a showcase of the best of the best in the residential building industry, and of the absolutely outstanding quality of work done by HIA members. The homes recognised in the 2024 HIA Tradelink Eastern Victoria Regional Housing Awards are exceptional, and HIA congratulates all of the winners and finalists,” said Mr Ryan.
HIA thanks its awards partners Tradelink, Australian Gas Networks, Glower, H&I Consulting Engineers and HIA Insurance Services.

This year’s predictable ‘election focused’ State Budget has missed the opportunity to improve the environment for home building. It contains few positive measures to increase housing supply, address housing affordability and lower the costs facing new home builders.
“The Housing Industry Association (HIA) says the Northern Territory’s 2026–27 Budget maintains key housing incentives but falls short of the investment needed to significantly lift housing supply and address skills shortages in the construction sector,” said Luis Espinoza, HIA Executive Director, Northern Territory.
The Queensland Government has confirmed while the National Construction Code (NCC) 2025 has been formally adopted, its commencement in Queensland has been deferred until 1 May 2027.
“The 2026/27 Budget handed down by the Victorian government today once again does not deliver meaningful tax reforms that will increase housing supply, address housing affordability and lower the costs facing home builders,” says HIA Victoria Executive Director, Keith Ryan.
