Zorzi Dalkeith home wins 2024 HIA Perth Home of the Year

Media release
The luxurious Dalkeith home by custom home builder Zorzi was announced the 2024 HIA COLORBOND® steel Perth Home of the Year to a packed audience of Perth’s leading residential builders, designers and manufacturers at last night’s 2024 HIA COLORBOND® steel Perth Housing Awards.

HIA WA Executive Director Michael McGowan said the spectacular home was an exceptional example of the talent within Perth’s building industry, and from design to execution displayed the vision, innovation, skills and workmanship that we can be proud of.

“The judges were impressed with the combination of complex design features, sophisticated materials and exceptional workmanship resulting in a beautifully executed family home which also took out the John Pietersen Award for Custom Built Home of the Year, and Residential Design of the Year by in-house architect Rietveld Architects.”

The home features a spacious master wing with dedicated parents lounge providing complete privacy from the rest of the home while overlooking the alfresco and pool area below.

At ground level, the spacious kitchen features full height integrated cabinetry in Japanese black timber panelling and flows through massive sliding doors to the expansive alfresco area pool, and cabana area that maximises the entire site.

The lower garage level features a fully fitted out gym, wine cellar with built in cabinetry and display racks, an enormous five car underground garage with EV charging and additional storage rooms. The home also features hydronic underfloor heating, PV cells with two Tesla batteries, and full home automation and security.

“The judges were impressed with the distinct use of robust materials throughout the home. Burnished concrete and polished plaster, beautiful cabinetry integrating timber and stone elements, large hidden pivot doors, shelving and display cabinets.

“Everywhere you look in this home is another impressive feature or complex construction detail that has been perfectly delivered,” said Mr McGowan.

“The HIA Perth Housing Awards recognise homes across a wide range categories including price, size, construction methods and materials, and the variety and quality of entrants in this year’s awards is testament to the resilience and ingenuity of the home building industry.”

“In recent years we have seen increased adoption of new materials and methodology through both necessity and design as the industry has adapted to delivering product at all levels of size, structure and affordability,” he said.

In an increasingly popular segment, the award for Small Lot Housing was won by Novus Homes for a cleverly designed two storey home on a small corner lot in Ardross.

“The judges commented on the appealing design of the home with angles and textures that suited the small corner site. The efficient design ensured the small lot was fully utilised and smooth transition from indoor to outdoor enhanced space and liveability.”

Built as a display home, the home was also awarded the Golden Key Award for Perth Display Home of the Year, and Novus Homes also picked up Excellence in Service for a Medium Builder.

Also awarded for their commitment to service were Mondo Exclusive Homes and Blueprint Homes, winning the small and large builder Excellence in Service awards respectively.

In a hotly contested renovation market Humphrey Homes was awarded Renovation / Addition of the Year for a substantial extension to an original Claremont Bungalow that now beautifully accommodates a family of five adults and will adapt to two self-contained residences in the future.

Modular builder Pique dominated the emerging area of prefabrication and modular construction, winning the Modular and Prefabricated Home of the Year; Peter Overman Award for Innovation in Housing of the Year; and Renovation / Addition Project $600,000-$750,000 category award.
Their modular built makeover transformed a 73 year-old Mosman Park cottage into a modern family home for six through the innovative design and addition of three prefabricated pods.

“The judges were impressed with the seamless connection of the pods, the sense of volume achieved in the home through light, raking ceilings and space, and the departure from any preconceived notion of a modular build,” said Mr McGowan.

GreenSmart Sustainable Home of the Year was awarded to Saltus Built for their timber framed and wood fibre clad project in Como. Built to Passive House principles the home achieves a high insulation and airtight rating optimal for year-round temperatures with little need for heating or cooling.

In an important market segment, Willing Build was awarded Apartment of the Year and Apartment Complex of the Year for their impressive project comprising 23 residences in Mt Lawley.

“The judges commented on the meticulous attention to detail throughout the project and perfect tailoring of product to the target market.”
