The prestigious award was presented in front of a packed house of North Queensland’s leading residential builders, designers, tradespeople and suppliers at the 2024 HIA-CSR Townsville, Central Qld and North Queensland Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards held on Saturday 9 November at The Ville in Townsville.
The outstanding custom-built home nestled on a quiet block is a masterful blend of contemporary design and serenity, featuring bold elements such as curved concrete walls, a round pool, and high ceilings, enhancing the sense of openness. The 3-bedroom home is a sanctuary away from the outside world, with a self-contained studio adding flexibility for multigenerational living.
The judges were impressed with every aspect of the home, from its innovative materials to its seamless indoor-outdoor connection and were impressed by the attention to detail and the difficulty in the build concept.
HIA North Queensland Apprentice of the Year was awarded to Mattias Bomford-Wind from Smith & Sons Cairns for his maturity, good skills across the building site and his strong knowledge of other trades including supporting of younger apprentices was a highlight to the judges.
Townsville builder New Home Solutions was awarded HIA NQ Professional Small Builder / Renovator, with Legacy Cabinets and Liam Gilligan Builders taking out HIA North Queensland Kitchen of the Year with Tailored Homes Cairns and Pacific Kitchens- taking home HIA NQ Bathroom of the Year.
“This year's awards acknowledged the remarkable talent, creativity and achievements of our HIA members who plan and build quality homes, kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor projects that redefine modern living and raised the bar for architectural excellence,” said Peter Fry, HIA North Queensland’s Executive Director.
The gala night commenced with the HIA-CSR Townsville Central Queensland Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards showcasing and recognising the quality and workmanship of HIA Townsville & Central Queensland members.
The Prestigious HIA-CSR Townsville Central Queensland Home of the Year was awarded to Allaro Homes Townsville for their custom-built masterpiece that combines elegance, practicality, and breathtaking views at every level. The three-tiered structure embraces the challenging terrain and seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape. A masterpiece of architectural innovation and craftsmanship.
Hotondo Homes Mackay collected the HIA Townsville Central Queensland Display Home of the Year award for a spacious 4-bedroom home that provides space and flexibility with open plan living. A separate living room offers a serene area for relaxation, leading to an open-plan kitchen, family space and alfresco area ideal for family gatherings.
Other Townsville Central Queensland award winners were Campbells Kitchen Cabinets and New Home Solutions – Kitchen of the Year; Lifestyle Constructions- Bathroom of the Year; M Homes -Townhouse/Villa Development of the Year and Tropical Homes – Project Home of the Year.

Overall winners in major categories will now represent HIA North Queensland at the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards in 2025 to compete for a national title against other HIA regions
“Australia’s population reached 27.4 million by the end of 2024, up by 445,900 people, or 1.7 per cent for the year,” stated HIA Senior Economist, Tom Devitt.
The Tasmanian election that no-one wanted to have is in full swing, and while the limited campaign period is unlikely to provide the usual platform to promote key policies and reforms, HIA is calling on both major parties to prioritise housing policies given the significant challenges across the state.
“Our dated and complex planning system is littered with speed bumps that could easily be removed”, said Brad Armitage, HIA NSW Executive Director.
“The Victorian government’s proposal to update home building contract laws to make them fit for use in the 21st century is welcomed by HIA,” stated HIA Executive Director, Keith Ryan.
