Caitlyn Goodman, a second-year carpentry apprentice with Proud Projects, has won the prestigious HIA Alec Fuller Victorian Apprentice of the Year award.
The result was announced at the 2025 HIA Victorian Apprentice Awards, presented by Stratco and held on Friday 8 August in Melbourne.
Caitlyn comes from a tradie family, and says that a construction apprenticeship was a natural fit for her as she has always enjoyed hands-on learning and building things.
Caitlyn’s host describes her as “an exceptional employee, well on her way to becoming a talented and skilful carpenter”. In addition to excelling at the hands-on aspects of the job,
Caitlyn has also demonstrated a keen awareness of what it takes to run a successful team and manage a project from start to finish.
HIA’s judges noted all of these qualities when recognising Caitlyn with this award, as well as her positive, confident attitude, her communication skills and her commitment to on-site safety.
“Our judges identified Caitlyn as an excellent role model and future leader in the industry,” says HIA Victoria Executive Director Keith Ryan. “She has the skill and dedication to go far, and we have every confidence that she will succeed in her goal of one day running her own building business.”
En route to being named apprentice of the year, Caitlyn also won the Second Year Carpentry category.
HIA warmly congratulates the other award winners on the night:
“The HIA Awards showcase the best of the best in the residential building industry, and the outstanding quality of work undertaken by HIA members,” says HIA Victoria Executive Director Keith Ryan. “They are also a celebration of the future of Victoria’s vitally important residential building industry.”
“The outstanding calibre of apprentices recognised at the 2025 HIA Victorian Apprentice Awards proves that future is very bright,” concludes Mr Ryan.
The HIA Alec Fuller Victorian Apprentice of the Year award is named in honour of Alec Fuller, a past President of HIA and passionate supporter of apprentices in the residential building industry.
HIA thanks its apprentice awards partners Stratco, Kango and HIA Insurance Services. A full list of winners can be found below.

The ACT Government has released a consultation paper exploring the extension of occupational licensing to additional construction trades.
The Housing Industry Association (HIA) is calling for a unified national framework for granny flats and secondary dwellings to ease the housing affordability squeeze - arguing that we could learn from recent changes in Tasmania to permit up to 90 per square metre granny flats and our neighbours in New Zealand who are now fast-tracking compliant small homes.
The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has lodged a major submission calling for a comprehensive overhaul of the National Construction Code (NCC), warning that excessive regulation and complexity is slowing the delivery of new homes across Australia.
