Women celebrated for brilliance resilience and leadership in QLD residential building

The 11th annual HIA Queensland Building Women Awards recognised stellar talent, and shone a spotlight on the huge contribution women are making to building more homes.

“Over the past eleven years, HIA’s Building Woman Program has recognised the excellence of Queensland women working in all facets of home building business,” said HIA Executive Director Queensland, Mike Roberts.

“Our industry has always relied upon talented, hardworking women to ensure more Queenslanders can get a roof over their heads.

“Without the contribution of skilled and dedicated women, the home building industry simply does not function, and our winners this year clearly demonstrate the high value that women are bringing to the table when it comes to getting on with the work of building more homes to tackle the current housing crisis,” Mr Roberts said.

HIA congratulates all the 2025 HIA Queensland Building Women Award winners:

HIA Qld Building Woman of the Year and HIA QLD Tradeswoman of the Year
Jessica Maher - The Superseal Group

Jess has redefined leadership, being the only female tradesperson in a male dominated crew of 23. A catalyst for transformation, often challenging the status quo to drive progress in the industry, she is highly respected and admired by her fellow team members.

Jess is a strategic thinker, resilient leader who is deeply committed to learning and developing new skills in her trade. Jess' overall inclusive, respectful nature is evident in all aspects of her professional and personal life.

Kim Allen - CRA Constructions 

CEO and Co-Founder of CRA Construction, Kim Allen has led her business to great success. Leading the company's strategic direction and day-to-day operations, Kim oversees the financial management, team delivery, business expansion, and ensures that her business remains at the forefront of the industry.

Kim has implemented her very own leadership program at CRA Construction that emphasises professional development, confidence building and leadership training, with a heavy focus on fostering a positive company culture, prioritising leadership developments, mentoring, and employee empowerment.

Anna Taylor-Hyde - Smith & Sons Renovations and Extensions Cairns South

Anna is an educated professional who has pivoted her career path to support both her business and her family. Based in Far North Queensland, Anna's skillset has impacted the business growth to a leading franchise in the industry. 

Her extensive role within the business includes administrative and executive support, customer service, procurement, job management, client management, business development, invoicing, quality assurance, and drafting. Anna has shown great resilience and found the perfect blend to prioritising her busy family life, alongside the growth of her business.

Shelley Lay - Hudson Homes

Shelley is the Queensland Retail Sales Manager at Hudson Homes, playing a key leadership role in overseeing the performance, development, and culture of the sales team. Her journey with the business began as the first New Home Consultant in QLD, where she helped establish the business' presence in a highly competitive market. 

Shelley leads her team with a strong focus on performance, coaching and client experience, while continuing to bring the same level of care and consistency she has been known for since day one. She is supportive of other women in the business, offering mentorship and encouragement without ever being overbearing. She shares her experiences honestly, speaks up when needed and is always available when someone needs guidance.

Lia Wall - Emerald Developments

Beginning her professional journey in the Disability sector, transitioning into Corporate Finance, alongside running a make-up artistry business, Lia is now striving as an active member in the construction industry.

Overseeing operations, contract administration, marketing, customer service, internal processes, and team culture, Lia has played a pivotal role in every major change her business has gone through, since it was established in 2020. Coming from a non-trade background, she has proven that you don't need to fit a traditional mould to lead powerfully. Lia is the heart of her business, mastering flexibility, emotional intelligence and genuine connection.

Jordan Jolly - Dream modular Homes

Coming from a background in education and environmental science, Jordan never thought she would find herself in the construction industry. Since her transition into the industry, she has found a great passion and received recognition for her success and initiative. 

Driven by her passion for learning, adaptability, and dedication to client experience, Jordan strives to achieve her very best in every opportunity that arises. Working in an industry that is constantly changing, Jordan embraces innovation and continually refines her work.
