Quality, innovation and design on display at Regional Housing Awards

Media release
The most exceptional homes in Western Australia’s South West, Great Southern, and Mid West regions were recognised on Saturday 13 September 2025 at the 2025 HIA Regional Western Australian Housing Awards presented by Wespine.

This year’s highest accolades went to Phil Kelleher Homes, awarded 2025 HIA-Wespine South West Home of the Year for a breathtaking Quindalup residence; WA Country Builders awarded 2025 HIA Great Southern Home of the Year for a thoughtful family home in Mira Mar; and Tunbridge Construction & Maintenance who took out the 2025 HIA Mid West Home of the Year for a dramatic coastal build in Wandina.

HIA WA Executive Director Michael McGowan commended the resilience and dedication of the regional building industry, stating, “Each year, we see regional builders delivering homes that not only meet the needs of their clients, but also respond to challenging landscapes, regional climates, and evolving lifestyle demands. The 2025 winners exemplify the remarkable design thinking, craftsmanship, and environmental responsiveness that make regional WA a leader in quality homebuilding.”

The HIA-Wespine South West Home of the Year, awarded to Phil Kelleher Homes, is a residence sculpted by its coastal setting and expansive site overlooking Geographe Bay. The use of locally quarried granite and a bespoke Blackbutt timber, along with a wave inspired parabolic roof structure showcase the outstanding engineering, architectural and build outcomes of this beautiful home.

“The judges were impressed with faultless craftsmanship in delivering the complex construction detail, along with the use of local materials and the innovative consideration to sustainability and safety elements that provide the perfect outcome for the semi-rural coastal environment,” said Mr McGowan.

Other notable results in the South West include the Golden Key Award for Display Home of the Year by Home Group WA South West for “The Denver,” a stylish and spacious 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home in Dalyellup. The high-performance sustainable home in the Witchcliffe Ecovillage by Eco Homes Group received the GreenSmart Sustainable Home of the Year.

PIQUE was celebrated for their Yelverton project, winning Modular and Prefabricated Housing of the Year for a rural home demonstrating how modular construction can deliver high-quality, high-functioning living spaces. Adrian Zorzi transformed a 15-year-old rammed limestone home in Eagle Bay into a modern coastal retreat, earning Renovation/ Addition Project of the Year. Meanwhile, South West Building Company won Small Commercial Project of the Year for delivering Dunsborough’s first foreshore café and creating a new community landmark.

Summit Homes Group picked up Townhouse Development of the Year for their Margaret River project, while ProLiving Design and Construction were awarded Spec Home of the Year and Residential Design of the Year for their Geographe project. In a competitive custom home market, White Building Co picked up Custom Home between $600,000 to $900,000 for their Boyanup home and Tallwood Custom Built Homes the $900,000 to $1.6 million category for a Witchcliffe project, as well as Outdoor Project of the Year at Quindalup.

In recognition of ongoing customer service and professionalism in the South West, Excellence in Service awards went to South West Building Company (small builder), Home Group WA South West (medium builder), and Dale Alcock Homes South West (large builder).

The 2025 HIA Great Southern Home of the Year was awarded to WA Country Builders for their cleverly designed two-storey home in Mira Mar that responds to its elevated site with views over Lake Seppings and Middleton Beach.

“Judges were impressed with the site responsive design that optimises natural light and outlook, and delivers four bedrooms, spacious living on both levels with indoor and outdoor areas, and balances form and practicality with ease,” said Mr McGowan.

The Great Southern region also saw a strong field of award-winning projects with Home Group WA Great Southern awarded the Excellence in Service award along with the Golden Key Award for Display Home of the Year for “The Allora” in Bayonet Head. WA Country Builders won Project Home of the Year for a smart and efficient three-bedroom home in McKail that maximises its modest footprint with a considered layout and strong indoor-outdoor connections. And PIQUE again impressed judges winning Lightweight Housing of the Year and Modular and Prefabricated Housing of the Year for a four-bedroom holiday home combining durable construction and coastal practicality.

In the Mid West, Tunbridge Construction & Maintenance took top honours, winning 2025 HIA Mid West Home of the Year for their spectacular Wandina home. Also named Custom Built Home of the Year, the dramatic home situated on a steep slope cleverly embraces its coastal location with uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean.

“Judges praised the design and build of this project which navigates significant site challenges with grace. Incorporating expansive windows, a dramatic cantilevered alfresco area, and a layout tailored for low-maintenance, year-round living, the homes meticulous detailing and materials selection showcase the builder’s precision and thoughtful execution,” said Mr McGowan.

The Mid West region’s diversity and innovation were also on full display. Aspire Homes & Renovations were awarded Lightweight Housing of the Year for a Wanerie home that emphasises natural flow, functional space and visual appeal. Evoke Living Homes took home Modular and Prefabricated Housing of the Year for a custom design in Cold Harbour reflecting the clients’ passion for aviation with a second-storey, control tower-inspired viewing space.

Integrity New Homes received multiple accolades, including Custom Built Home up to $500,000, Lightweight Housing of the Year, and Residential Design of the Year, further cementing their presence across the region.

WA Country Builders won Project Home of the Year for a sprawling farmhouse in Karakin that embraces its scenic surroundings. Northern Aspect Construction also made a strong impact in Shark Bay, receiving both Specialised Housing of the Year and Townhouse Development of the Year for high-quality, liveable housing tailored to the region’s needs.

Reflecting on the depth of this year’s entries, Michael McGowan said, “Whether it’s a grand coastal residence, a modular home in the bush, or a small townhouse development, these awards demonstrate that regional Western Australia is home to some of the most thoughtful, well-executed, and inspiring residential projects anywhere in the country.”
