The Sir Phillip Lynch Award of Excellence is one of HIA’s highest honours and recognises individuals who have made a distinguished and enduring contribution to the residential building industry at the highest level of excellence and integrity.
Graham Walker’s significant decades-long contribution to HIA through leadership, advocacy and governance, alongside a distinguished career helped to shape communities through residential land development and home building across New South Wales.
“Through years of service to HIA and an enduring contribution to residential development and construction, Graham has helped strengthen our Association and support the growth of housing across Australia,” commented HIA Managing Director Jocelyn Martin.
“Graham has served on multiple committees and forums, contributing to policy development and HIA’s strategic direction, and also served as a Director on the HIA National Board. His involvement with HIA dates back to the early 1990s, and he has served as a committee member or office bearer since 1997.
“Graham has been a long‑standing and influential member of the NSW Regional Executive Committee, contributing through his policy insight, business experience and deep understanding of the industry,” she said.
“He has also been influential in regional NSW, where much of his latter career in land development has been focused. This includes his long‑term involvement with the HIA Wagga Wagga branch, and the city’s broader community where he has been a strong advocate for local builders and the development of liveable suburbs.”
In recognition of this sustained service, Mr Walker was awarded Life Membership of HIA in 2024, an honour reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and made an enduring contribution to the Association.
Beyond HIA, Graham has made a lasting impact on the housing industry through a career spanning more than 40 years, including senior leadership roles in construction, development and residential land supply. As Managing Director of Combined Development Group, he has played a central role in delivering new housing and supporting growth across regional New South Wales.
“Graham’s influence extends well beyond boardrooms and committee tables,” Ms Martin said. “Through the development of land and construction of homes, he has helped turn planning, investment and policy into real places where people live, work and raise families."
Ms Martin said Mr Walker’s career reflected the values on which HIA was founded.
“This award recognises not only professional achievement, but service, generosity and leadership, Graham has given enormously to HIA and to the residential building industry, and we are proud to acknowledge that contribution with this honour,” concluded Ms Martin.
The Award was presented to Mr Walker during HIA’s National Presidents Dinner at the Gold Coast and is named after the late Sir Phillip Lynch who was an outstanding Australian, member of parliament and champion of the Australian housing industry.
Previous award recipients include Director & Partner at GV Lawyers, Pino Monaco, General Manager of May Constructions, Colleen May and Managing Director of Meriton, Harry Triguboff.
