Victorian builders celebrate major wins at national housing awards

Media release
Five standout Victorian residential building projects were recognised on the national stage at the 2026 HIA Australian Housing Awards on 18 April on the Gold Coast, winning top honours before an audience of industry leaders, distinguished guests and home building consumers.

Elder Constructions won HIA Australian Renovation / Addition Project for its meticulous restoration of an 1886 Moonee Ponds residence and the creation of a contemporary extension with wellness amenities and a five-car basement. Refined detailing and landscaping seamlessly unite heritage and modern design. This category is partnered by HIA SafeScan.

AG Construct won HIA Australian Apartment of the Year for an expansive South Yarra penthouse showcasing exceptional craftsmanship, luxury materials and refined detailing. Featuring three ensuited bedrooms, two private terraces and abundant natural light, the residence exemplifies sophisticated apartment design. This category is partnered by HIA Insurance Services.

Abode Inspirations won HIA Australian Residential Design for a refined, site-sensitive home that transforms a challenging sloping block into a serene sanctuary. With floating rooflines, cantilevered forms and passive-solar performance, the design delivers enduring comfort, breathtaking views and meticulous technical rigour. This category is partnered by Ampol Australia.

Coastal Builders won HIA Australian Outdoor Project for a standout retreat featuring a curved pool, pool house and premium landscaping. The project blends technical precision with natural elegance, creating a luxury outdoor space that feels effortless and deeply connected to its surroundings. This category is partnered by Toyota for Business.

Studio Minosa won HIA Australian Bathroom Design for a meticulously crafted master ensuite featuring microcement surfaces, large-format porcelain tiles and integrated storage with lift-up mirrors. Judges praised the calming palette and soft curves, creating a serene, enduring sanctuary defined by thoughtful detail. This category is partnered by Dulux.

Queensland’s Mactech Constructions was awarded the industry’s highest honour, being named the 2026 HIA Australian Home of the Year. Perched on one of the Gold Coast’s most exposed cliff edges, the five-level residence artfully resolves extreme site conditions into a refined vertical home, complete with wellness retreat, rooftop pool and helipad. Precision detailing, acoustic separation and integrated services deliver a robust yet elegantly crafted coastal landmark. HIA Australian Home of the Year is partnered by CSR.

HIA Managing Director Jocelyn Martin congratulated the 2026 HIA Australian Housing Awards winners and praised their remarkable achievements.

“HIA is committed to recognising the outstanding achievements and talent amongst our members. The HIA Australian Housing Awards allow us to acknowledge winners for their skill and commitment to quality construction, design and material selection.

“The winning projects redefine what's possible in terms of innovation; they’re setting new benchmarks for the industry.

“It’s not only outstanding homes we’ve recognised tonight; we’ve also acknowledged remarkable members who are excelling in business management in our Professional Builder Awards, along with our Emerging Builder from Western Australia and our exceptional apprentices.

"It is my absolute pleasure to congratulate each winner for their commitment to excellence," Ms Martin concluded.

The HIA Australian Housing Awards are the ultimate platform to showcase the talents of the nation’s top builders and designers. Winners are selected from state-based finalists, with awards in 24 separate categories. The Awards are partnered by leading building products company CSR.
