The inaugural awards were announced in front of an audience of the Hunter region’s leading residential builders, trade contractors, designers, manufacturers and industry professionals, gathering to celebrate the outstanding women helping shape the future of the industry.
HIA Hunter Executive Director, Craig Jennion, said “the awards continue to showcase the growing influence of women across all areas of residential construction and business”.
“The HIA Hunter Building Women Awards recognise the exceptional women who are driving innovation, leadership and positive change throughout the residential building industry,” said Mr Jennion.
“From tradeswomen and business owners to mentors, administrators and executive leaders, these award winners demonstrate the depth of talent, professionalism and dedication that exists across our industry.”
The HIA Building Women Awards celebrate the achievements and advancement of women in the building industry while recognising organisations and individuals who champion inclusion, innovation and professional development.
This year’s awards highlighted the diverse career opportunities available within residential building and the important role women play in strengthening business, supporting communities and contributing to the continued success of the industry.
The prestigious 2026 HIA Hunter Building Woman of the Year Award was awarded to Holly Bourke from Bourkelex Electrical, recognising her outstanding contributions to the residential building industry and leadership within the sector.
Holly is an inspiring electrician, business owner and leader who has built a thriving electrical business servicing Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. As Director and Head Electrician, she combines technical expertise with strong leadership, driving business growth, improving operational efficiency and mentoring the next generation of tradespeople.
A passionate advocate for women in trades, Holly actively encourages and mentors young women entering the industry.
Holly was also named the HIA Hunter Tradeswoman of the Year.
HIA also recognised outstanding achievement across a range of categories, including Elizabeth Powell of MARS Building for Administration Executive and Zoe Pohlmann of Your Home Designs for Business Mentor/Leader.
Sharon Hill of McDonald Jones Homes received the Executive Leadership award, and Kellie Williams of Patioworld Central Coast & Sydney North was named the winner of Professional Business Woman.
Highly Commended awards were presented to Tabytha Hipwell of Baxco Homes for Administration Executive, and Meegan Kelly of Buildcert for Executive Leadership.
“In recent years we have seen more women pursuing rewarding careers across every area of residential construction, and these awards are an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and inspire the next generation,” said Mr Jennion.
“We congratulate all winners and finalists on their achievements and thank our industry partners for their ongoing support of these important awards,” concluded Mr Jennion.
