The 2026 HIA NSW Apprentice Awards was held last night on Thursday, 13 August. A big congratulations to our award winners for their exceptional achievements!
Every year, the HIA Apprentice Awards highlight our dedication to cultivating and celebrating the next generation of industry professionals. These awards are a platform to recognise the hard work, commitment, and exceptional talent that our apprentices bring to the table. The results were announced in front of an audience of NSW’s leading residential builders, designers and manufacturers, with dinner and drinks, at Doltone House, Bossley Park in Sydney.
This year, our MC was Jeremy Whiting, General Manager at Executive Building Group, and a former HIA Apprentice. Jeremy began his career as an apprentice and has since followed a successful pathway within the industry. His insights underscored the message that a trade is not a secondary option, but a highly rewarding and valuable career choice. Through sharing his personal journey, he encouraged the apprentices in attendance to remain committed to their training and to recognise the long-term opportunities available within the building and construction industry.
We also had the pleasure of being joined by our HIA Australian Apprentice of the Year, Sarah Starbuck. Her strengths and potential represent the future of the building industry. Additionally, we were joined by Sarah's Host Employer, Peter Wright of Wright Building & Carpentry, and James Brickwood of Brickwood Building on an industry panel focused on the pathways for apprentices in the industry, how to stay resilient and to face challenges head-on.
Congratulations to all our winners, and especially to our First, Second, Third and Fourth-Year Winners, who will now go on to the HIA NSW Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards as finalists for the coveted HIA-Roger Pysden NSW Apprentice of the Year Award.
Meet the winners of the 2026 HIA NSW Apprentice Awards, recognising outstanding apprentices, industry excellence, and the future of residential construction.
The Victorian government has introduced into Parliament this week a Bill that would introduce a licensing scheme for any person who wants to enter into a training contract with an apprentice.
“The number of loans issued for the construction or purchase of new housing increased in the June quarter 2026, for both owner occupiers and investors,” stated HIA Senior Economist, Tom Devitt.
“HIA welcomes the finalisation of the new Sydney Plan which provides a 20-year framework for the future development of Sydney,” said Brad Armitage HIA NSW Executive Director.
