Mactech Constructions has won the 2026 HIA Gold Coast/Northern Rivers Home of the Year for ‘Headland House’, with the landmark beachfront project taking out five categories.
Winners were announced at the 2026 HIA Gold Coast/Northern Rivers Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards in front of an audience of leading residential builders, designers and manufacturers.
‘Headland House’ challenges conventional beachfront design through sweeping curved forms, monolithic natural stone and uninterrupted coastal views. Judges praised the precision of every curve, junction and material transition. They said the project combined visionary architecture, elite craftsmanship and technically complex construction to create a calm, timeless coastal home.
In addition to taking out the night’s highest honour, the beachfront residence was the standout of the awards, also winning Custom Built Home of the Year, Custom Built Home Over $4 million, Bathroom of the Year and New Bathroom Over $50,000.
Several other projects and businesses were also recognised across major housing, renovation, kitchen and bathroom categories.
Metricon Homes won Display Home Over $1 Million and Display Home of the Year. The five-bedroom display home blends European-influenced arches and textured stone with multiple relaxation zones, an entertainer’s kitchen and resort-style indoor-outdoor living.
Barling Built Design & Construction won Innovation in Housing for a sustainable reinterpretation of the Australian shed home, as well as Custom Built Home $1.5 million–$2 million. Its renovation project also secured Renovation/Addition Project Over $600,000 and Renovation/Addition Project of the Year after transforming an existing home into a contemporary coastal residence.
Resolve Construction won New Kitchen Over $150,000 and Kitchen of the Year for a refined kitchen built around a curved, fully stone-wrapped island and cohesive bespoke joinery. The business also won Residential Design and Custom Built Home $3 million–$4 million for the hillside coastal residence ‘Villa Alcyone’, plus Custom Built Home Up to $1 million for the flexible, family-focused Pipers Edge project.
HIA Queensland Executive Director Michael Roberts said, “The quality of design and workmanship on display across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region is outstanding. Mactech Constructions should be very proud of taking home the top prize in such a competitive field.
“We’re extremely proud of the work being produced by HIA members and congratulate all the winners and finalists. We are also grateful to the partners who support this vitally important industry.
“Winners of major categories can look forward to progressing to HIA’s Queensland Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards on 13 November and I wish them every success,” concluded Mr Roberts.
