The awards, held in Busselton on Saturday 12 September, celebrated the quality, innovation and diversity of residential construction being delivered across regional Western Australia, showcasing homes that respond to their environment while meeting the changing needs of modern homeowners.
The three regional HIA Home of the Year winners were:
- South West – Tallwood Custom Built Homes, for its Burnside residence
- Mid West – WA Country Builders, for its Glenfield residence
- Great Southern – WA Country Builders, for its Ocean Beach residence
HIA WA Executive Director Michael McGowan said the three winning homes demonstrated the exceptional standard being achieved by regional builders in WA.
“Regional Western Australia continues to produce some of the state’s most impressive homes, with builders delivering innovative and highly considered projects that respond to their clients, their communities and the unique environments in which they are built,” Mr McGowan said.
“The HIA Regional WA Housing Awards are an opportunity to recognise the builders, designers and tradespeople behind these projects and to showcase the quality of housing being delivered across the state.”
South West: architectural ambition meets sustainability
Tallwood Custom Built Homes claimed the HIA-Wespine South West Home of the Year with its architecturally considered and environmentally sensitive residence in Burnside, capping off a strong result that also saw the project named Custom Home of the Year and overall winner of Innovation in Housing and Lightweight Housing.
The sculptural contemporary home comprises a series of interconnected pavilions arranged around a landscaped central courtyard. Expansive glazing, carefully framed outlooks and a combination of stone, concrete, timber and steel create a strong connection to the landscape.
Environmental considerations are embedded throughout the project, including protection of endangered orchids, a reduced building footprint and fully off-grid solar and water systems.
Tallwood also claimed GreenSmart Sustainable Home for a custom passive house in Witchcliffe Ecovillage, achieving a 9.1-star energy efficiency rating and incorporating natural and recycled materials.
Other major South West winners included Redink Homes Southwest, which took out the Golden Key Award for South West Display Home of the Year; Dale Alcock Homes South West, winner of Project Home of the Year; Reside Studio, winner of Residential Design of the Year; and PIQUE, which won Modular and Prefabricated Housing and Affordable Housing.

Mid West: innovative construction for diverse environments
WA Country Builders took out the HIA-Wespine Mid West Home of the Year for its Glenfield residence, which also won Custom Built Home of the Year.
The contemporary family home features generous living spaces and a central kitchen connecting indoor and outdoor entertaining areas. Flexible planning, separate activity spaces and a private master suite create a home designed to adapt to family life.
Lightweight construction was a strong feature of the Mid West awards, with Integrity New Homes winning Lightweight Housing for its Rudds Gully residence. The project demonstrates the versatility of timber and steel in a challenging rural environment, combining low angular rooflines, durable materials, strategic glazing and extensive outdoor living areas.
The region also showcased the growing role of modular construction, with TR Homes awarded Modular and Prefabricated Housing for its Burracoppin farmhouse. The four-bedroom home combines modular construction with a distinctly rural character, demonstrating that prefabrication does not have to come at the expense of individuality or architectural design.
Other major Mid West winners included Fox Modular, which won Affordable Housing; Tunbridge Construction & Maintenance, winner of Renovation / Addition Project of the Year; and DA Burke Builders, which claimed Townhouse Development of the Year for its five-villa Coral Bay project.
Great Southern: homes designed around their environment
WA Country Builders also claimed the HIA-Wespine Great Southern Home of the Year for its Ocean Beach residence, which was also awarded Custom Built Home of the Year.
The home was designed to celebrate its natural setting, with expansive glazing framing the surrounding tuart trees and a generous central living space connecting the kitchen, scullery and alfresco.
Carefully considered zoning provides privacy and flexibility, while the home's material selection, craftsmanship and layout create a strong balance between contemporary living and its natural environment.
WA Country Builders continued its success with the overall Lightweight Housing award for another Ocean Beach project, as well as Project Home of the Year for a contemporary farmhouse in Marbelup and Project Home up to $500,000 for a Bayonet Head home.
PIQUE continued its presence in the regions winning Modular and Prefabricated Housing for its Bremer Bay home, demonstrating how modular construction can respond to a coastal site while capturing views and strengthening the connection to the outdoors.
Home Group WA Great Southern was recognised for its strong performance across both construction and customer service, winning the Golden Key Award for Great Southern Display Home of the Year, Affordable Housing and Custom Built Home up to $500,000, as well as the region's Excellence in Service Award.

Regional housing industry setting the standard
Mr McGowan said the breadth of projects recognised across the three regions demonstrated the ability of regional builders to innovate across a wide range of housing types and price points.
“What stands out across this year’s regional awards is the diversity of approaches being taken to housing,” Mr McGowan said.
“We are seeing sophisticated custom homes alongside affordable and project housing, while lightweight, modular and prefabricated construction are increasingly being used to respond to different sites, climates and lifestyles.
“These homes demonstrate that quality housing is being delivered right across regional Western Australia, and the people behind these projects should be extremely proud of what they have achieved.”
The South West, Mid West and Great Southern Home of the Year winners, together with the other regional category winners, will now progress to the 2026 HIA Western Australian Housing Awards in November, where they will compete for state honours against leading metropolitan and regional builders.

New rules add thousands to the cost of a new home as Tasmania falls years behind on housing
