HIA COLORBOND® steel Perth Housing Awards Winners Announced

Media release
Azure Luxury Homes has been awarded the 2026 HIA COLORBOND® steel Perth Home of the Year.

Western Australia’s finest residential building projects have been recognised at the 2026 HIA COLORBOND® steel Perth Housing Awards, with Azure Luxury Homes taking out the prestigious 2026 HIA COLORBOND® steel Perth Home of the Year for an exceptional renovation and addition in Peppermint Grove.

The project, which also received Renovation / Addition Project of the Year, impressed judges with its seamless integration of original and contemporary elements, transforming an established residence into a sophisticated multi-generational family home. Original stonework was preserved and complemented by new masonry, while a reimagined floorplan created distinct living zones connected through generous, shared spaces and a central kitchen.

HIA Western Australia Executive Director Michael McGowan said this year’s awards highlighted the extraordinary talent, innovation and craftsmanship that continues to define the state’s residential building industry.

“The winners of the 2026 HIA COLORBOND® steel Perth Housing Awards represent the very best of Western Australian home building and design,” Mr McGowan said.

“From complex renovations and luxury custom homes through to lightweight construction, modular housing and compact urban living solutions, these projects demonstrate the depth of expertise within our industry.

“The HIA COLORBOND® steel Perth Home of the Year by Azure Luxury Homes is a remarkable example of how an existing home can be thoughtfully transformed through exceptional planning, craftsmanship and attention to detail.”

The judges were impressed with the detail and precision of work throughout the six-bedroom home, the transition between original and new areas, and the balance of architectural beauty with practical family living. The considered floorplan provides the owners and parents with separate wings connected by generous communal living areas that both encourage interaction while also preserving privacy.

Soaring ceiling heights and expansive glazing create light filled spaces and frame views to the landscaped gardens and pool area.

The project demonstrates outstanding quality at every level, resulting in a home that combines elegance, functionality and family living, setting a benchmark for residential renovations in Western Australia.

In other major categories, the coveted John Pietersen Award for Custom Built Home of the Year was awarded to Giorgi for a stunning residence that also won the $4.5 million to $6.5 million Custom Built Home category. Featuring sculptural forms, rich material selections and expansive light-filled spaces, the four-bedroom Dalkeith home delivers an impressive blend of grandeur, warmth and craftsmanship.

The Golden Key Award for Perth Display Home of the Year went to Webb & Brown-Neaves for The Besser in Balcatta. The display home combines bold masonry construction with timber and natural textures to create a sophisticated and highly liveable family environment.

Project Home of the Year winner VM Building impressed judges with its bold three-storey Yokine home which showcases outstanding architectural design, individuality and the clever adaptation of an existing design to maximise the available footprint.

Reflecting the growing adoption of alternative construction methods, Evans WA secured Lightweight Housing of the Year for a two-storey North Coogee home showcasing modern timber-frame construction, thermal efficiency and sustainable building practices.

PIQUE was awarded Modular and Prefabricated Housing of the Year for its Gooseberry Hill project, which demonstrates the adaptability of modular construction while capitalising on spectacular city views and overcoming significant site constraints.

With more Western Australians embracing compact living, Fellowship Homes won Small Lot Housing of the Year for Casa Riviera, an architecturally ambitious home on a 267sqm Maylands site that maximises space, amenity and river views through an innovative upside-down floorplan.

Competition in the townhouse sector remained exceptionally strong, with Club Precedence awarded Townhouse of the Year for its luxury Applecross project, and Meritor Homes by Welink taking out Townhouse Development of the Year for a meticulously designed development in Woodlands.

In the design categories, Rietveld Architects claimed Residential Design of the Year for an expansive Peppermint Grove home inspired by mid-century modern living, while Prince Design received Residential Interior Design of the Year for the transformation of a Crawley penthouse that beautifully balances functionality, elegance and ageing-in-place considerations including a suite for future live in carers.

Mr McGowan said the winning projects reflected important trends shaping the future of housing across Western Australia.

“We are seeing increasing demand for innovative housing solutions, whether that is smaller lot housing, prefabricated and modular construction, or homes designed to accommodate multiple generations under one roof,” he said.

“These award-winning projects showcase not only outstanding design and construction outcomes, but also the industry's ability to respond to changing community expectations and housing needs.”

The awards also recognised excellence in customer service and professionalism throughout the building journey, with Open Space Developments, A1 Living and Blueprint Homes winning the Small Builder, Medium Builder and Large Builder Excellence in Service awards respectively.
