HIA Executive Director ACT and Southern NSW, Geordan Murray, said the awards showcase the very best of the residential building industry from across Canberra and Southern NSW, recognising excellence in craftsmanship, design, innovation and professionalism.
"The HIA Awards are the premier residential building awards program in our region and provide an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding work being delivered by our members," Mr Murray said.
"Finalists represent the best projects and professionals from across Canberra, the South Coast, Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains, Southwest Slopes and Riverina regions.
"The calibre of entries this year has again been exceptional and demonstrates the depth of talent that exists across our industry."
Mr Murray said the awards are independently judged by experienced industry professionals who assess projects against exacting standards of quality, workmanship, innovation and design.
"An HIA Award is highly respected because winners are judged by their peers and recognised for excellence in their field," he said.
"In addition to the judged categories, the public has also had its say through the People's Choice Home of the Year Award, recognising the home that has captured the imagination of the community."
The ACT and Southern NSW awards also provide a pathway to national recognition, with winners in eligible categories progressing to the 2027 HIA Australian Housing Awards to be held on Hamilton Island next May.
"The national awards bring together the best builders, designers and tradespeople from every state and territory, and we know projects from our region can compete with the very best in Australia," Mr Murray said.
"Last year we saw local success translated onto the national stage when Prof Homes & Architects Ring & Associates went on to win the national 2026 HIA Australian Display Home award for their Denman Prospect design, highlighting the quality of building and design being delivered in our region."
The 2026 local HIA awards program has already crowned some early winners including Jamie Carroll Constructions, which claimed the 2026 Riverina Home of the Year last month. Eligible category winners from the Riverina will now compete against the wider region at tomorrow’s awards ceremony.
Mr Murray also welcomed major partner e&s which has joined the local awards program for the first time in 2026.
"The awards are an important opportunity to acknowledge the builders, designers, tradespeople, suppliers and clients who work together to create outstanding homes and projects throughout our region," he said.
Media are invited to attend the awards presentation and interview winners following the announcement of major categories. Images of winning properties and individual professional categories will be available after the winner are announced.
The region's finest in residential building and renovation will be recognised tomorrow night as the 2026 HIA-CSR ACT and Southern NSW Housing, Kitchen & Bathroom Awards are held at Parliament House in Canberra.
HIA warns that proposed national construction standards and new procurement rules miss the mark and land hardest on home builders.
“Skilled trade shortages remain widespread across Australia, with demand for workers supported by the recovery in home building activity over the past year,” stated HIA Senior Economist Tom Devitt.
The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has welcomed the passage of the ACT Government’s latest planning legislation, saying the reforms will help reduce delays, streamline approvals and support the delivery of more homes across Canberra.
