G.J. Gardner Homes Cairns FNQ has won the coveted 2026 HIA North Queensland Home of the Year for its luxury ‘Peakviews’ home, which combines thoughtful design, outstanding craftsmanship and a dramatic natural setting to create an exceptional family home.
Winners of the 2026 HIA North Queensland Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards were announced in front of North Queensland’s leading residential builders, designers, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers in Cairns on Friday 2 October.
Peakviews is elegantly designed around breathtaking valley views, with the remarkable retreat responding to its hillside location. The judges said the home’s many features work together seamlessly, praising its family-friendly layout and how the design nestles into the hillside. They also recognised the careful planning that allows the principal living spaces, entertaining areas, pool and master suite to embrace the outlook without compromising privacy.
“The workmanship throughout is a credit to the trades involved,” the judges commented.
G.J Gardner Homes Cairns FNQ had a successful year, winning eight awards on the night including the HIA North Queensland People’s Choice Home which put the decision of the winning home in the hands of the public.
Housing Industry Association (HIA) North Queensland Executive Director Peter Fry commented: “Our prestigious awards, partnered by South Pacific Stone, showcase the very best in residential housing, kitchens and bathrooms from members across Cairns, Townsville and Central Queensland.”
“The quality of this year’s entries continues to demonstrate the exceptional talent and commitment of our members, particularly given the challenges facing the industry.
“The winning projects demonstrate high-quality construction and illustrate the diversity of residential construction from across north Queensland. Our builder and designer members are creating homes which respond to the environment and meet the changing needs of today’s homeowners.”
HIA North Queensland Apprentice of the Year, partnered by Stratco, went to Townsville-based Jordan Turner from Campbells Kitchen Cabinets. The judges were impressed by Jordan’s strong work ethic, rapid skill development and positive approach to teamwork, which have earned the respect of supervisors and colleagues.
The judges commented: “His dedication, professionalism, commitment to quality, willingness to take on new challenges and support for others all contribute to a productive work environment.”
“Jordan exemplifies the qualities of a future leader in the building industry,” they concluded.
Pacific Kitchens from Cairns took out the HIA North Queensland Kitchen of the Year for its stunning galley-style kitchen. The striking natural quartzite island, rich timber-look cabinetry, integrated appliances and storage provide a seamless connection to the surrounding tropical landscape. The judges commented: “The kitchen delivers a sophisticated balance of architecture, warmth and functionality.”
CCW Cabinet Works won HIA North Queensland Kitchen Design for a project that is both striking in form and function, and transforms the heart of the home into a work of art. Natural light, lush outdoor connections and a raw material palette create a seamless blend of luxury and liveability.
“A dramatic stone island takes centre stage, complemented by rich timber cabinetry, integrated storage and refined detailing throughout,” commented the judges.
Townsville’s John Munro Builder won the HIA North Queensland Bathroom of the Year for a sophisticated ensuite, which redefines luxury through a blend of natural light, elegant curves, bespoke joinery and a calming palette. “Distinctive and flawlessly executed, this bathroom creates an immediate sense of retreat,” the judges commented.
Urban Aspect Build Planning + Interior Design won HIA North Queensland Bathroom Design for transforming a compact, windowless space into a sanctuary of calm and luxury. From the striking backlit mirror to the softly illuminated vanity and shower recess, the design proves that atmosphere can be just as powerful as space.
New Home Solutions Qld was named the HIA North Queensland Professional Medium Builder, recognising the Townsville builder’s consistent delivery of positive customer experiences. Its success reflects an experienced team, strong trade partnerships, staff development, smarter systems and a commitment to open communication, accountability and authentic relationships
“HIA members from across North Queensland came together in celebration, relishing the opportunity to showcase the talents of all those involved in bringing these projects to reality,’ Mr Fry commented.
“The Awards are our annual opportunity to really recognise the tradespeople, designers, suppliers, office staff and builders who deliver impressive, innovative and high-quality homes across our community.”
“The industry has experienced challenges throughout the year, ranging from skilled labour shortages and material delays to rising costs. However, the HIA Awards highlight the resilience, skill, professionalism and commitment of our members.” Mr Fry concluded.
Major winners now progress to represent North Queensland on the national stage at the 2027 HIA Australian Housing Awards in May 2027.
