HIA Appoints new NSW Executive Director

Media release

HIA Appoints new NSW Executive Director

Media release
HIA NSW is pleased to announce Brad Armitage has been appointed as Executive Director NSW and will commence in the role in January.

Brad started his professional life as a carpenter. He joined HIA in 2017 as Assistant Director – Building Services and then moved to NSW to take up the role of Assistant Director – Planning and Building. In 2020 he was appointed Deputy Executive Director NSW.

Brad’s practical building experience together with his passion to see positive outcomes for members will make him an asset to the role. With Federal and State elections on the horizon in 2025, HIA NSW intends to be front and centre advocating for the industry and getting home building in NSW moving.

The appointment will follow the departure of HIA NSW’s long serving Executive Director NSW, David Bare. David has been a proven leader in NSW’s housing sector and has made a significant difference to outcomes for the residential industry during his tenure. His leadership and guidance will be significantly missed.

Quotes attributable to Brad Armitage, Executive Director NSW from 1 January 2025

"I am excited to take on this important and challenging role. Our members are at the very core of what we do at HIA and I look forward to working alongside our incredible team here at HIA to get the best outcomes for our members.

With a decade low number of housing commencements likely in 2025 it will be even more important that we focus our efforts so that HIA members can get on with doing what they do best, building homes.

I look forward to representing our members and continuing to build on the solid foundation left by David Bare over the last 15 years."

Quotes attributable to Jocelyn Martin, Managing Director, HIA

"HIA is extremely pleased to welcome Brad Armitage to our experienced state leadership team operating across Australia. His grassroots experience as a builder means Brad is well-placed to advocate on behalf of those issues which impact builders every day.

“I am extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Brad Armitage to the role of Executive Director NSW. We all agree that we need to build more homes in Australia and at this stage there is a significant amount of work to be done to improve the business climate for this to happen in NSW. I look forward to working alongside Brad to hold the NSW Government to account for improvements to planning regimes and reduction of red tape to allow builders to get on with the job of building more homes.

“HIA’s strength is its people. With a vast range of expertise across technical and business issues, HIA is able to provide reliable support and representation on industry issues. With his first-hand experience as a builder, the appointment of Brad Armitage to the role of Executive Director NSW will ensure HIA continues its work in advocating for a better residential construction industry in NSW.”
