Agreement on Draft NCIF Blueprint an important step forward

Agreement on Draft NCIF Blueprint an important step forward

Media release
“The Housing Industry Association (HIA) took part in the National Construction Industry Forum (NCIF) today and it was encouraging that the Forum reached agreement on establishing a draft ‘Blueprint for the Future’ to drive long-term change in the industry,” said HIA Managing director, Jocelyn Martin.
The NCIF is the leading national tripartite forum in the building and construction industry, bringing together government, unions and business to promote best practice, address systemic problems and drive reform to industry culture.

“The Forum was chaired by the recently appointed new Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations the Hon Amanda Rishworth MP, and it was pleasing to see the commitment shown by NCIF Members to address the well documented challenges faced by the industry.

“In identifying 45 recommendations for the Blueprint, industry leaders have identified 9 recommendations to be prioritised for immediate action, once the Blueprint is formally endorsed later this year.

“Priorities areas include boosting industry productivity to deliver more homes faster, building a skilled and adaptable workforce and improving safety and women’s participation in the industry.

“Importantly the Forum agreed that existing reform initiatives should be leveraged to avoid duplication. A key example highlighted was the work underway by Minister for Housing and Homelessness, Clare O'Neil to reduce red tape to turbocharge the delivery of housing, which HIA is broadly supportive of.

“HIA looks forward to continuing to progress these important reforms and contributing to the NCIF work as it finalises the Blueprint and for the delivery of priority areas and recommendations” concluded Ms Martin.
