HIA Welcomes new Regional Director for ACT & Southern NSW

Media release
The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has appointed Geordan Murray as Regional Executive Director for the ACT and Southern NSW, HIA Managing Director Jocelyn Martin announced today.
Mr Murray will replace Greg Weller, who has served in the position since 2017 and is moving to a role in the association’s national office.

“Geordan is well known to many across the industry through his previous positions within HIA’s Economics and national policy teams,” said Ms Martin.

“Over the past 15 years at HIA’s National Office, he has developed a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing builders, contractors, and trades.

“In his most recent role, Geordan has played a leading part in HIA’s advocacy program, particularly in raising awareness of the workforce pressures facing the building industry and the need for greater investment in skills and training.

“Geordan’s deep policy expertise and proven advocacy skills will be an asset for our members at a time when the residential building industry in the ACT and Southern NSW continues to face significant pressures.

“HIA would additionally like to thank Greg for his dedication and leadership. He has been a tireless advocate for our members and has overseen important work during a challenging period for the industry”

“Greg will remain in the role until 1 September to support a smooth transition. Over his seven years as Regional Executive Director, Greg has been a strong voice for the industry, guiding members through a period of significant regulatory change and navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“He has worked closely with the ACT government and local directorates on planning reform, housing affordability, and building quality initiatives.

“Greg has also been a consistent advocate for reducing red tape, greater support for small business, while strengthening HIA’s engagement with members across the ACT and Southern NSW, Ms Martin concluded.
