The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has welcomed the strong and constructive engagement from Homes Tasmania following a meeting with residential builders in Hobart today, focused on accelerating housing delivery and improving certainty across the residential construction pipeline.

The briefing provided builders with an update on the Australian Government’s 100,000 Homes for First Home Buyers commitment, including Tasmania’s allocation of 2,101 homes, and the role Homes Tasmania will play in supporting land supply, infrastructure delivery and new housing outcomes.
Importantly for the Tasmanian building industry, approximately half of the allocated homes will be delivered through Homes Tasmania, with around 650 lots already allocated over the next eight years, providing a clearer forward pipeline for industry.
HIA Executive Director-Tasmania Benjamin Price said the open dialogue and willingness to engage directly with industry was a positive step.
“Today’s discussion demonstrated a genuine commitment from Homes Tasmania to work collaboratively with residential builders to improve housing supply and delivery outcomes,” Mr Price said.
“Clearer information around land availability, infrastructure investment and delivery timeframes is critical for builders making long term investment and workforce decisions.”
Mr Price said continued engagement would be essential to ensure policy settings translate into homes on the ground.
“Tasmania’s builders are ready to play their part in delivering more homes, particularly for first home buyers, but success depends on practical coordination across government, councils and industry.”
“We welcome Homes Tasmania’s willingness to engage early and directly with builders, and we look forward to ongoing collaboration to address constraints and keep projects moving.”
"HIA looks forward to further improvements to Homes Tasmania, through the implementation of Building Tasmania, which will see infrastructure, strategic planning, and housing delivery come under one roof within Government."
