HIA is proud to be a national sponsor of National Skills Week, Australia’s annual celebration of vocational education and training, which this year runs from 24 to 30 August under the theme Life Changing Skills.
HIA Executive Director Queensland Mike Roberts said the launch is an important opportunity to showcase the value of skilled careers in residential building and to encourage more Queenslanders to consider a trade pathway.
“Queensland’s housing challenge cannot be solved without a strong pipeline of skilled tradespeople,” Mr Roberts said.
“Every apprentice, trainee and skilled worker entering our industry is helping to build the homes, communities and economic confidence Queensland needs. National Skills Week is a timely reminder that vocational education and training changes lives, supports employers and strengthens the future of our industry.”
Mr Roberts said the construction industry offers rewarding, practical and future-focused careers for school leavers, career changers and people looking to upskill.
“A career in residential building gives people the chance to earn while they learn, develop nationally recognised skills and be part of an industry that makes a visible difference in every community,” Mr Roberts said.
“As Queensland continues to grow, we need more young people, parents, teachers and career advisers to see building and construction as a first-choice career option. HIA’s support for National Skills Week reflects our commitment to backing the people who are building Australia.”
