Marking National Tradies Day, HIA Managing Director Jocelyn Martin said tradies make an extraordinary contribution to Australian life, often without seeking recognition.
"From the homes we live in to the schools, community facilities and neighbourhoods that support our daily lives, tradies help shape Australia every day," Ms Martin said.
"They build our homes, renovate and maintain existing housing, restore communities following natural disasters and help create the places where Australians live, work and raise their families."
Ms Martin said National Tradies Day is an opportunity to recognise not only the work tradies do, but the skill, professionalism and dedication that sits behind it.
"Behind every finished home is years of training, practical experience and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes for Australian families.
"Tradies don't just build houses. They build communities, create opportunities and support local economies across the country."
National Tradies Day also provides an opportunity to encourage more Australians to consider the benefits of a trade career.
"Trade careers offer secure employment, strong earning potential and the chance to build something tangible that makes a real difference in people's lives.
"They allow young Australians to earn while they learn, develop highly valued skills and pursue pathways that can ultimately lead to business ownership."
With skilled tradespeople in demand across Australia, Ms Martin said there has never been a better time to consider a career in the industry.
"Technology may continue to change the way homes are designed and built, but it will not remove the need for skilled people to build them.
"The demand for tradies remains closely linked to one of Australia's most fundamental needs, providing homes for a growing population.
"Today we thank Australia's tradies for everything they do. Australia's future is built by tradies, and National Tradies Day is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate their contribution," concluded Ms Martin.
This week HIA launched a new report, Australia’s Future is Built by Tradies, acknowledging the challenges facing residential construction with respect to skilled trades, and outlining an action plan for industry and government.
